Known as the last surviving Ohio veteran of the American Revolution, John Gray was born at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. He enlisted at age sixteen and was present at the Battle of Yorktown. After the war he moved to what would become the state of Ohio. He died, near Hiramsburg, Noble County, Ohio, at the age of one hundred four years, two months, twenty-three days. He had several children, but only three have been identified at this time: Mary, William and Isaac. All three were the children of his first wife.
