Alvina Kniss, 90, of Bayard, died June 4, 2013 at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard. Her funeral service will be held on June 7, 2013 at Faith United Church of Christ in Bayard. Interment will be at the Bayard Cemetery. Alvina was born July 29, 1922 in Bayard to Carl and Lydia (Rehn) Reiber. She received her education in Bayard and graduated from Bayard High School. She married Jake Kniss, Jr. on July 18, 1944 in Little Rock, Arkansas while Jake was in the service. After his discharge, they moved back to Bayard where they farmed and raised their family.Alvina enjoyed helping on the farm, raising chickens and canning food for her family. She was very active in the church where she held various offices. She served on the Bayard Alumni Association for many years as secretary, and worked various jobs including at Gamble's and lastly at the Bayard Senior Center. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children Robert (Signe) Kniss, Wayne (Cheryl) Kniss and Jennifer (Vern) Meyer all of Bayard; grandchildren Kerry (Ty) Marker, Matthew (Brea) Kniss, Megan (Mike) Burda, Wade (Tara) Kniss, Andrew (Kate) Kniss, Valerie (Kevin) Wolverton, Lauren (Steve) Akerson and Katherine Meyer; 9 great grandchildren; brothers Alfred (Betty) Reiber, Robert (Viola) Reiber; sister Betty (Bob) Stromski; sisters in law Helen Reiber and Esther Michal; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband Jake, sisters Evelyn Kniss and Pearl Hunt and brother Leonard Reiber preceded her in death.
