Lelon E. Alexander, 87, of Silver Creek died Monday, March 29, 1999, at Columbus Community Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Larry Biederman will officiate. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 263 of Silver Creek.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home in Silver Creek. Further visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Alexander was born on Feb. 9, 1912, at Duncan to William and Emma (Leith) Alexander. He graduated from Duncan High School in 1931.

He married Mildred Boss on Oct. 11, 1941, at Silver Creek. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Following the service, he returned to Silver Creek and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years until retiring in 1974.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling and horseshoes. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Silver Creek and served on various church boards. He was a 50-year member of American Legion Post 263 in Silver Creek, Senior Citizens, Horseshoe Club, was treasurer of the CCC Veterans and Railroad Club 16.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Leona Alexander of Fremont and Velma Sandell of Lincoln; and a special friend, Ella Inselman of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Herman, Ivan Bruce "Pete" and Ray; and one sister, Ruby Warner.
