Obituary from the Sylvia Sun, 1/25/1906, pg. 1:
Conrad Kreie, St., Died
Conrad Kreie, sr., was born in Bro-stadt, Bramschweig, Germany, May 31, 1922. He came to America in the fall of 1847, landing at New York, and from there went to St. Louis, Missouri. Here he met and married Henrietta Hartman, April 11, 1949. To this union were born twelve children, two of whom preceded their father to eternity. Of the surviving ten children, eight live in this vicinity, four sons and four daughters. The other two sons were both present during the illness and death of their father. Henry lives at Agusta [sic], Butler county, Kansas, and Chris at Waldron, Kansas.
From St. Louis, grandpa Kreie moved to Lee county, Iowa, where he lived for several years, then moved to Clark county, Missouri, where he resided for 28 years.
He then came to Reno county, Kansas, and has lived here continuously for the last twenty years, and until his death, which occurred at noon, January 22, 1906.
Grandfather Kreie was converted 50 years ago while hearing the Rev. John Baumgarten preach, at Farmington, Iowa, and joined the German M.E. church. He remained a true and faithful Christian until God called him home.
He lived to the ripe old age of 83 years, 7 months and 21 days. He leaves his widow, ten children, fifty-six grand children and thirty six great grand children to mourn his loss. The funeral services, which were largely attended, were held at the German M.E. church north of Sylvia, January 23, under the charge of Rev. M.S. Blair. The body was then buried in the German cemetery.
