Grove Disney was born near Baltimore, Maryland, Dec 15, 1832, son of James and Elizabeth (Leshar) Disney. Grove, the fifth son in the family.

He left home in 1852, starting across the plains to California, via Fort Laramie and Salt Lake City, to Hangtown, being 5 moms and 26 days en route.

Prior to Grover's travels, he married Hannah N. Osborne, who died during his absence, leaving a son, Albert.

In Aug 1862, he entered Union Service as a member of Company I, One Hundred and Twenty-sixth Illinois Volunteer Infantry.

In Mercer County, Illinois, on 29 March, 1865, Mr. Disney married Mrs. Margrett J. (Wellever) Rogers, by whom he had eight children: Edward; Thomas; John; James, who married Della Scott; May, who married Charles Fleek; Elsie; Grove and Rebecca. With the exception of the first two, all were born in Nebraska.

In 1868, Mr. Disney moved his family from Iowa to Nebraska.
