He and Sally married in 1818; they had four daughters: Sophronia (1820-1886), Harriet (1822-1901), Sarah Ann (1827-1899) and Fanny (1829-1855); he and Lydia married in 1832; they had five children: Elizabeth Huldah (1832-1853), George D (1836-1913), Ellen M (1840-1897), Charles Leroy (1845-1913) and Henry Jacob (1847-1916).
His primary occupations were farmer and mason; in 1815 he was appointed Sgt in the 4th Inf Regiment, 1st Brigade, 7th Division of the Mass Militia. In 1817 he was commissioned ensign; in 1819 lieutenant. In 1821 he was commissioned Captain of a company in the 4th Inf Regiment, 1st Brigade, 6th Division of the Mass Militia. According to the company orderly book he succeeded Capt John Healy (Lydia's uncle), Capt Lot Marsh and Capt William Larned. He resigned his commission Dec, 1823.
