Vivian graduated from Berkeley High School and the University of California at Berkeley where she majored in European history. She volunteered as a Red Cross Nurses Aide at Alta Bates Hospital during the Second World War.

She earned her Elementary Teaching Credential from San Francisco State University.

Vivian taught 5th and 6th grade levels at Franklin and Durant Elementary in Oakland, and later at Caleb Greenwood Elementary in Sacramento. She also served as a master teacher, training university students in classroom teaching.

Vivian took early retirement to enjoy family life. She enjoyed genealogy, especially searching for records and connecting with family. Portions of her research have been published.

Vivian loved to travel, visiting all 50 US states, most of the Canadian provinces, Mexico and the Caribbean. She visited England immediately after WWII and was moved by the war tragedy. She also visited Europe more recently and was moved by the progress.

Vivian was loved and admired by her family and friends and will be dearly missed. A private ceremony was held at Olivet Memorial Park in Colma (San Francisco) where her ashes were placed next to those of her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jesuit High School, 1200 Jacob Lane, Carmichael, CA 95608.
