Walter J. Hobbs, 83, of 311 NE 10th, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital. He was born to John and Ellen Hobbs on Aug. 30, 1880 in Geary County and moved to Abilene in January of 1945 when he retired from his farm north of Solomon.
He was married to Edith O. Chase on April 19, 1905 in Dickinson County, KS. She died on March 3, 1941.
He was married to Etta M. Porter Hall in August of 1941. He was a member of the Abilene Methodist Church and Elks Lodge.
Survivors are his wife; two brothers, George R. Hobbs and Clarence A. Hobbs of Abilene; three step-daughters, Mrs. Kenneth L. Ace, Emporia; Dorothy Hall, Corpus Christi, TX; Mrs. John P. Holland, Roswell, NM; one step-son, Charles P. Hall of Walters, OK; five grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held from the Danner Funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. W. Ross Thornton in charge and burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery at Solomon.
