In 1903, Raymond purchased the music store on 3rd St and operated it until his death. The music store was run by his wife Anna after his death, until it was destroyed in the flood of 1913. Prior to purchasing the music store, he was employed as a clerk for the railroad office and was a member of the Knights of Maccabee chapter.
Raymond was killed on June 30, 1910 attempting to rescue his son Glen, aged 13, who was floundering in the river. Charles Evans was able to rescue Glen, but was unable to say Raymond, who could not swim.
