Beloved husband of Meg, cherished father of Roger (Carol), loving Grampy of Krista and Adam and a very dear step-father of Paul (Henriette). Krista and Adam were his pride and joy. He will be sorely missed by his loving friends who have expressed their profound sadness at the loss of this kind and loving man. Tom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Archibald and Margaret Dewar, emigrants from Scotland. He enjoyed a happy childhood with his brother Archie (Chief Justice, Manitoba), his younger brother Bob and sister Mamie, all now deceased. He entered the University of Manitoba in the late 1930's, but his plan to study Pharmacy was put on hold when he volunteered for service in WWII. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and after officer training at Royal Rhodes, Victoria, served for five years in the North Atlantic conflict. At wars end, Tom resumed his studies at the University of Manitoba, gained his degree in Pharmacy and ultimately became the Canadian CEO of CIBA Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a Swiss company based in Montreal. Tom and Meg have lived in Qualicum Beach for 27 years where Tom golfed, curled, played bridge and spent many Saturday mornings tending the Eaglecrest highway garden with his buddies. He loved every minute of it. The family is deeply grateful for the kindness, consideration and excellent care given to Tom by the nurses and doctors at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. They truly went the extra mile. A private family service will be held on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 at Qualicum Beach Cemetery.
