Fanny E. Alkire, 93, of Butler went to be with her Lord and Savior at 6:04 p.m. Sunday.
Born June 8, 1920, in Rosedale, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George W. VanBuren and Sophia Putnam VanBuren.

Mrs. Alkire was a homemaker and seamstress. For the past two years, she attended Lifesteps Adult Day Care. She was a member of the North Main Street Church of God and most recently attended the Discovery Christian Church in Cranberry Township. Her lifelong goal and crowning achievement was to follow her Lord and to be an example of God's love to those who are hurting.

Mrs. Alkire is survived by one son, and two daughters, sixteen grandchildren, thirty two great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and one brother.

Mrs. Alkire was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luther Alkire, who she married on Sept. 27, 1940. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Sharon Columbus and Donna Alkire; one son, Lawrence Alkire; several grandchildren; and eleven siblings.

Alkire - Friends of Fanny E. Alkire, who passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the North Main Street Church of God before the funeral service.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, with Ethan and Debbie Harrington and Bryan Gratton, pastors of Discovery Christian Church, officiating.

There also will be visitation at the Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, W.Va., from 10am-noon Friday before interment. Interment will follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway, W.Va., with John Edward Abersold, nephew of the deceased, officiating. Published in Butler Eagle on June 18, 2013.
