Mr. Franklin will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his home and his neighbors.
He served his country proudly during World War II, serving in Company D of the 120th Infantry, fighting in the European theatre. From the landing on D-Day through the Battle of the Bulge, he fought in five major battles. He was awarded the Silver Star for bravery and was also awarded medals for sharp shooting and good conduct.
He retired for Eastman Kodak Company, Fiber Development Division, in 1985, after 42 years of service. Prior to that, he had been employed at J.P. Stevens Company. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, James T. and Pearl (Blair) Franklin; his loving wife of 54 years years, Rebecca Ann (Hubbard) Franklin; three sisters, Zale Fleenor, Lorraine Ferrell and Virginia Williams; seven brothers, Walker, Carl, Henry, Eugene, Howard, Hugh Kyle and Elmer.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home, or any time at Carolyn and Doug's residence, 610 Willowcrest Place .
Services will follow visitation in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor J.W. Depew officiating.
Military graveside services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Joe W. Byrd officiating and American Legion Hammond Post #3, Gate Post 265 and Tennessee National Guard.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home Friday by 12:45 p.m.
Pallbearers are Mike Franklin, Doug Tipton, Andrew Tipton, Joseph Tipton, Roger Musson, Terry Hackler and Jeff Franklin.
