Bernice Halley Arnest was born and raised in Charles County, Maryland near LaPlata. She graduated from what is now Frostburg State University in Maryland and taught at the McDonaugh Institute in LaPlata when she met Mr. T. M. Arnest II. They married August 4, 1915 at the Chapel of the Transfiguration, Washington, DC (by Rev. Horace W. Stowell, Certificate # 70515) and removed to Nomini Hall in Westmoreland County, VA to raise her family. A daughter, Catherine Draper was delivered at Nomini Hall November 10, 1916. After the death of her husband and the marriage of Catherine, she lived with her daughter and her husband in Front Royal, VA until her death. In February 1952, she passed away in her daughter's home.
