Published 8 August 1889, Thursday, in The Herald and Torch, Hagerstown, Maryland:
Mrs. Eleanorah, wife of Jacob Brown, died at their residence in Cumberland, Md., on Saturday, July 27, after an illness of over two weeks, aged 61 years. Her children were all present at her death and funeral, which took place at 5 p.m., on the 28th of July in Rose Hill Cemetery. The pall-bearers were Lloyd Lowndes, G. J. Beachy, Horace Resley and J. B. Widener. Her husband, Jacob Brown, three daughters and two sons survive her. All the children are of age; two daughters and one son are unmarried. Mrs. Brown was married to her surviving husband, May 20, 1851, and has lived in Allegany county -principally in Cumberland - ever since. She was born and reared in Washington couty, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Angle Brumbaugh, members of two ancient and highly respectable families of the county. All of her immediate family left this county many years ago; the survivors are her brother Alexander, in Kansas, and two sisters, Mary and Emily, in Indiana. The deceased, in life, was modest and retiring - amiable, kind and quiet in her disposition, yet energetic and intelligent in her chosen sphere of life, thoroughly domestic and practical by nature and cultivation. Her home was a model scene of industry and prudence, where her friends were sure of a welcome and true hospitality. Her devotion to her family was intense; she took little share in the pleasures of the world - her's were at home.
