Penny was born in Hanover, Germany and immigrated to the United States from Wiesbaden, Germany in 1929 at the age of 50. Traveling on the S.S> Dresden, she sailed from Bremen on July 17th 1929. She settled in the Asheville, N.C. area. She was unmarried. Her brother, George Hageman, who had immigrated earlier, had settled in the New York City area and married my great grand-mother, Elsie Hedrich Spatz Kerner Haegeman.
