Married to actress Dorothy Vernon and father of Bobby Vernon. In his younger days, Burns enjoyed punching a punching bag and within a few years became the world's champion bagpuncher. He took this specialty into vaudeville and played on the stage before moving to Hollywood in 1911. When he arrived in Hollywood he reffed the boxing matches, however in 1914, the California Legislature forced punching bag boxing out of the state. Harry then became a prop keep for Charley Chase and an animal trainer at the old Universal Zoo. In 1923, Harry became a hero when a circus tent went up in flames. He rescued a half dozen women and children from the blaze. In doing so, he was trampled by horses and spent the next seven months in the hospital. He later took over the trade newspaper, "Filmograph" and with the profits from that paper, was able to provide room and board for several down on their luck actors. Harry suffered a heart attack and passed away while driving his car in Hollywood.
