Ed Jewett, member of the Bemidji fire department and fire truck driver 23 years, passed away Saturday morning at a Fergus Falls rest home, according to word received by relatives here. Death came to the veteran city employee in his 55th year.

Mr. Jewett died of complications and injuries resulting from a fall from a scaffold on which he was painting his house. Falling eight feet to the ground he suffered a fractured skull and spent several weeks in the Bemidji Lutheran hospital.

Somewhat improved, he was taken later to University hospital in Minneapolis from which he was taken a short time ago to a rest home in Fergus Falls for further recovery. Though still not recovered from his injury and in a weakened condition, Mr. Jewett's death was unexpected. (Bemidji Daily Pioneer, Oct 28, 1939)

Mr. Jewett was born November 11, 1883 at Fort Ripley, Minnesota. After coming to Bemidji he joined the fire department where he served as truck driver for more than 22 years. Surviving are his widow of Bemidji and five sons, Leo, Lester, Sylvan, Merle and Richard, all of Bemidji, and one daughter, Vivian, also of this city.
