Amos Coulter died in a train wreck on the Kanawha & Michigan Railroad a few miles below Charleston, W. Va. when an excursion train to a Fourth of July outing of members of the Order of United American Mechanics overturned on a trestle. The destination of the train was Poca, W. Va., less than twenty miles distant.
