Never within the memory of the writer had there occurred a death in this city which cast such a gloom over the entire counity and caused such universal regret and heartfelt sympathy as that of Mrs. W.S. Black, nee Miss Maude Gent, was born in England on the 15th day of May 1857 and came with her parent to this country when she was two years old. She and Mr. Black were married June 20th, 1883 at Sedalia, MO., at which place she lived, and to them were born seven children - the oldest of whom is 14 years old and an invalid, and the youngest a babe of eight months - all living. Mrs. Black was a woman of more than ordinary intelligence, having obtained an excellent education and fitted herself for teaching, which profession she was engaged in prior and up t the time of her marriage. Her whole being was devoted to the welfare of her husband and children, and her home was as happy as an earthly home could possible be; and this loving Christian wife and mother made it so. Funeral services were held at the C.P. Church on Friday morning, March 11th. A Friend. (Benton County Democrat 3/17/1898)
