"W. Wallace Hammond, Sr, ... a prominent Corry businessman died early this morning at Corry Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past three years. He was born May 31, 1895. in Concord Township, where he was raised and he graduated from Corry High School in 1914. Following his graduation, Mr. Hammond attended the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1919. He was employed early on by the Goodrich Tire Co in Akron, Ohio, and then returned to Corry where, in 1920, he and the late Frank Parsons and the late Worth Hammond started the Hammond Elevator Company, a feed mill and retail coal business on First avenue. In the early 1930's he and Worth Hammond started the present Hammond Builders Supply business on Eagle street which he and his son ... currently operated.

Mr. Hammond was active in business until ill health forced his retirement three years ago. He was a life member of the Corry Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Erie Consistory, and a member of Zem-Zem Shrine where he played for many years with their Oriental band. From 1947-1982, he was a director of the Corry Savings and Loan Association, a life member and, for may years a trustee of Corry Elks Lodge 769, and a member of the Stanford Hose Co.

Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Wilcox, to whom he was married November 27, 1922, in Corry, one daughter, Nancy Tuck of Clymer, NY, a son ..., six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a brother ... of Bradenton, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth, and two brothers Ross Merrill Hammond and Howard J Hammond. No calling hours will be observed, but a funeral service will be conducted by the Corry Masonic Lodge ... at the Bracken Funeral Home.
