NOTES: Sedgewick James. His first name is spelled Sedwick on Barnet's list of Associators. Sedwick James is on the list of persons in Harford county who took the Oath of Fidelity and Support to Maryland in 1778 before James McComas, along with James McGaw meaning he was born prior to abt 1760. The list was submitted in March of 1778. (Maryland Records, Volume II, Oaths of Fidelity and Support, page 234, on Genealogy.com.) Sedgewick James was an ensign in the Deer Creek Battalion of the Harford Militia in 1778. He was the son of Richard James of Harford county, whose will was probated on November 3, 1777. Sedgwick James is listed in the 1790 census of Harford county in a family of six with two slaves (roll 3, book 1, page 97). Sedgwick James is also listed in the 1810 census of Harford county

Session Laws, 1812 Passed Dec. 30, 1812. In favor of Sedgwick James. No. 22. RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the Western Shore be, and he is hereby authorized to pay to Sedgwick James, of Harford county, or to his order, the sum of forty two dollars, it being the amount of the composition money paid by him into the treasury, on part of a tract of land called "The Hunting Ground, " lying and being in Harford county aforesaid, the said part lying foul of an elder tract, called "Hutcheson's Discovery corrected. "

ESTATE: Nov 26 1830 Sarah James adm of Sedwick James and Bradford Amos and Sarah his wife, Abel Watkins and Rachel his wife, Elijah Davis and Mary his wife, Robert Henry and Ann his wife, Elizabeth James, Sedgwick James, John James, Samuel James, Sedwick Scarbrough, Davis Scarbrough, Richardson Scarbrough and Elizabeth Scarbrough states that one Sedwick James late of said County deceased during his lifetime was indebted to John Stump deceased in the sum of 86 pds one shilling and 4 pence equal to $229. John died in 1815 having made his will and that the orator John Stump and John Archer obtained a judgment in 1821 against said James and after this judgment said James died. In March term 1829 they obtained judgment against Sarah as administratix as aforesaid. Sedgewick James' personal estate was insufficient to pay his debts and with no means of collecting money due place judgment against a parcel of two tract lying contiguous to each other called "John's Beginning" and "Hutchinson's Discovery" containing 470 acres. and the said Sedgewick James left the following persons his heirs at law to wit, Sarah married to Bradford Amos, Rachel married to Abel Watkins, Mary married to Elisha Davis, Ann married to Robert Henry, Elizabeth James, Sedwick James, Samuel James who are the children of said Sedgwick James deceased and Sedgwick Scraborough, Richardson Scarborough, and Elizabeth Scarborough who are the children of Susan and Euclidus and the said Susan was the dau of said Sedgwick deceased and the said Susan is now also deceased and they all reside in Harford Co and the children of Susan are infants.
