Benjamin F. Butler III, 66, passed away on Feb. 25, 1999, in Lake Placid, Fla. He was a former member of the Virginia National Guard and a member of the Church of the Resurrection. He retired from NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton. He founded Butler Welding Corp. in 1979 and was the president. His father, Benjamin F. Butler Jr., predeceased him.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, Lois T. Butler; mother, Stachi Balon Butler; a daughter, Sharon B. Armstrong; a son, Benjamin F. Butler IV, and his wife, Ginger; six sisters, Doris B. Askew of Norfolk, Susan B. Williams of Suffolk, Barbara B. Kilpatrick, and her husband, John, of Rocky Mount, N.C., Virginia B. Gustavson, and her husband, Walter, of Chesapeake, Sandra B. Vogt, and her husband, Glenn, of Front Royal, and Carol B. May, and her husband, Larry, of Manassas; a brother, Donald R. Butler, and his wife, Carol, of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Allyson K. Armstrong, Brittany F. Butler and Benjamin F. Butler V; eight nieces; eight nephews; four great- nieces; four great-nephews; and a special godchild, Catherine J. Butler.

A Christian wake and visitation will be held Wednesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. with Father Thomas Nee at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland. Father James Carr will hold a funeral Mass Thursday, March 4, at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Resurrection with entombment in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to either Church of the Resurrection, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, Va. 23703; or St. Mary's Catholic Church, 202 S. Broad St., Suffolk, Va. 23434.
