Christopher Christian Bowman
and
Savina Shafer Bowman

In Lafayette, Sept. 14th Christopher Bowman, in the 87th year of his age.
Also in the same place on the 15th inst. Savina Bowman, wife of Christopher Bowman aged 76 years, thus has passed away from our society and aged and much respected patriarch, and his ever faithful, concort. They were natives of Dauphin County, Penn. From whence, after they were married, they removed to Cumberland county, Penn. And soon after to Stark county 43 years ago last May, and having remained there 16 years, they removed to this place, where they have resided some 27 years. They have raised sa very large and respectable family of children, 14 in all, 13 of whom lived to maturity, one dying at the age of 15. There are nine of the children living, 8 of whom, with many grandchildren, are residents of Lafayette.
Father Bowman was born amid the eventful scenes of the revolution, and having lived to see his beloved country pass from a weak and dependent colonial position with 3 millions of inhabitants, up to the first of the nations, with over 30 millions of people, and reaching out it's gigantic arm until it grasped the shore of the Great Pacific, amid the throes of another mighty struggle destined to give practical effect to the Heven descended principles adopted in the first. He quietly laid himself down and resigned his spirit to the God who gave it, and was buried in the same grave with whom he had lived over a half a century.
Both were faithful members of the Christian Church and died in the blessed hope of the resurrection in the eternal life.
May their descendants imitate their worthy example and live to serve God and bless their associates.
