Fatal Shooting Accident

The Riverdale district was the scene of a sad and fatal accident last Saturday night. While the family on Bridge Street, with whom Jospeh Aiello, aged 18 years, boarded, were at evening prayers, one of it's members remarked that the yeggmen were about and shooting people.

Young Aiello said, "I guess I'd better get my revolver and clean it and have it ready for use in case there is any need of using it."

He went to the bureau drawer and took the weapon therefrom, and then went back to his seat and began to polish the barrel, neglecting to remove the cartridges in the chamber. It proved a fatal omission.

As he worked over the revolver he chanced to press the trigger.

There was a flash and a report, and a 32 calibre bullet ploughed its way into his body, entering near the end of the breast bone, passing through the left lung and ranging downward into the abdomen, where it lodged. Internal hemorrhage ensued.

The police were notified and Officer John F Barrett and Special Officer M.J. O'Neil hastened to the scene, taking with them Dr Edward W Finn.

Dr. Finn did all that professional skill could do to make the sufferer easy and save his life.

The shooting took place at 11:30, and the youth died at 12:55 on Sunday morning.

Associate Medical Examiner Dr. John W. Pratt viewed the body.
