She was born on December 31, 1911 in Pleasant View, Utah, the daughter of John R. and Josephine Cottam Shaw. She was the eldest of ten children. She received her education in Weber County schools. On January 6, 1934 she married Julian M. Powell in Blackfoot, Idaho and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She was a faithful member of the Slaterville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Ward. She served as young Women’s President, Primary President, Ward Librarian, Stake Sunday School Secretary, and a very devoted Visiting Teacher. She regularly attended the temple and enjoyed doing extensive genealogy work.

She worked on the family farm; retired from the Ogden Credit Bureau; and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Lorna and Chad N. Widdison; Joan and Talmage W. Skeen; Sharon and Archie E. Skeen; Kay and Virg C. Howe; 14 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters and brother, Erma Staples, Phyllis Tucker, Beth Parker, Maxine Owen, Robert K. Shaw, Karen Blakely, and Chyrl Markworth. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Merrill Powell; her parents; a brother, J. Riley; and a sister, Marjorie Shaw.
