When he was 25, George married Jeanie Grant, whose parents had homesteaded a nearby farm. Together they raised 8 children on their own farm: Annie, Weir, Gladys, Jean, Grace, Grant, Evelyn and Jack. Jeanie's younger sister Ellen, who was deaf, lived with them as well. After Jeanie died in 1912, George continued running the farm. In 1926 he married Ellen.
George developed cancer and died in 1932 at the age of 65. He is buried with his wife Jeanie in the Breadalbane Cemetery.
