Harry J. Pier, secretary-treasurer of the L&L Motor Supply Co., died at 1:10 p.m. Friday, January 20, 1961 at a local hospital where he had been a patient for the last two weeks. He was 87.

Born March 16, 1873 in Yuba, Wis., Mr. Pier attended the Chicago College of Pharmacy. From 1900 to 1917 he owned and operated a drugstore at Hurley, S.D. He had owned and managed the L&L Motor Supply Co. in Sioux Falls since 1917.

Mr. Pier's marriage to Viola Mills took place at Hurley Sept. 14, 1898. Mrs. Pier died May 8, 1951.

A daughter, Mrs. F.W. Witte, Sioux Falls survives. A son, Paul and a daughter, Virginia, preceded Mr. Pier in death.

Also surviving are a brother, Thomas, Avon, S.D., and two sisters, Mrs. C.W. Thompson, Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. W.H. King, Silver Springs, Md.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Monday afternoon at First Presbyterian Church for Harry J. Pier. Mr. Pier, 87, of 927 S. Spring Ave. died Friday afternoon at a local hospital. He was secretary-treasurer of L&L Motor Supply Co.

Rev. Clarence Adams will officiate at the service. The body will lie in state at Miller Funeral Home until 11:30 a.m. Monday and at the church until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will be V.C. Hammer, Jack Martins, Sheldon M. Oleson, Lee Reiger, Harvey Cunningham and Bill Tveit. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Pier moved to Swan Lake, Dakota Territory as an infant with his parents. He was a graduate of Illinois College of Pharmacy. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1897 and worked at Dunning Drug until 1901. He bought a drugstore in Hurley in 1901 and operated it for 16 years before moving back to Sioux Falls. He bought a part-interest in L&L Motor Supply Co. in 1917 and a year later became sole owner. The company moved to its new building at 9th and Minnesota in 1958.

Mr. Pier was a member of Joppa Lodge No. 120 and Crown Chapter No. 37 Hurley; York Rite Bodies; Cyrene Commandery No. 2 and El Riad Shrine, Sioux Falls.

Survivors not previously listed are two brothers, Leonard A., Belvedere, and William L., Fort Worth, Tex., three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Pier died in 1951. A son, Paul, died in 1960. Memorials may be directed to Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital, Minneapolis.
