Boy Killed At Play

Francis Pearson, aged 14, was accidentally killed Tuesday afternoon by his cousin Harold Nichols, aged 14, while they were playing wild west stunts at the thome of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nichols.

Harold Nichols grabbed a 25-35 rifle which he thought was empty, and snapping the trigger, was horrified when the gun exploded, tearing a hole in his cousin's side and stomach which was literally torn to pieces by the shell.

Medical aid was summoned and the unfortunate lad was rushed to the hospital, but nothing could be done to save his life, and death relieved his sufferings in a short time.

Mr. Nichols had not been in the habit of keeping a loaded gun about the house, but had been bothered by prowling dogs and had neglected to take the shell out of the gun after having loaded it to take a shot at the animals.

This is the third death in the Pearson family through accident within a few years, two small children having been drowned some time ago in a large irrigation ditch which passes near their place, and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to them in their latest bereavement.

Francis was a bright boy and a general favorite among his school mates and little friends.

Funeral arrangements are being made for Friday afternoon.
