Loraine passed away a few days after giving birth to a son. Birth and death announcements were published in the Burlington Times (Burlington, Vermont) on February 22, 1861.

Homer G. Hubbell was reported missing in November, 1865. In December, a family friend reported seeing him in Chicago. In Janary, 1866, it was discovered that Homer had embezzeled $75,000 from the Missisquoi Bank in Sheldon, where he worked as a cashier. Hiss belongings were ordered to be auctioned to help cover the theft, and some of the bank's notes were found when his assets were being inventoried. No other reports of his whereabouts were found.
