On the glorious morning of April 12, 2007, one of God's amazing creations was called home. Born on July 11, 1905 in Waynesboro, Tennessee to Ora Gallaher and John Quinton Rasbury. At the young age of 4 years old Monetta and her family headed to Texas via covered wagon. A true pioneer for her time she never met a challenge she could not conquer. Her curiosity and yearning for knowledge began at a young age in Texas when she used to spy on Quanah Parker's nephew and his tribe camping out on the family's farm in the Paducah, Texas.
After working her way through Ward Belmont Jr. College she graduated from her beloved Baylor University in 1928. Later years she did graduate work at Peabody, Yale University, Lewis Hotel Management School, University of Houston, Massey Real Estate School and the Industrial College of Armed Forces. Her first 2 years out of college she taught school in the Texas Panhandle and Amarillo. In the summers she was a counselor at Camp Waldemar.
In 1931 she became the first playground supervisor at Elmwood Park in Amarillo, Texas where she met her future husband, Nathaniel Benedict Edmiston. They were married on February 7, 1932. They moved to Houston (a city she truly loved) that summer. She gave birth to her much admired and loved son, Robert Quentin Edmiston on January 26, 1933. Although her husband's job took him to other states for months at a time Houston was always their home.
Monetta began her real estate career in Houston in 1943. Her keen business sense took her far and wide in business and personal relationships from presidents to many local politicians and movers and shakers. She loved to travel and had friends all over the world and was known as a kind soul that ruled with a strong mind.
The numerous organizations she belonged to through the years were the Baylor Alumni, Baylor University Women's Association, Junior League, Houston Symphony, Pan American Round Table, Harris County Heritage Society, International Institute of Education, English Speaking Union, Knife and Fork Club, World Trade Club, United Fund, Council of World Affairs, American Association of University Women, International Real Estate Federation, International Association of Real Estate Board and National Association of Real Estate Board. She attended the International Real Estate Congress in Tokyo '67, Switzerland '69, Ireland '70 and Canada '71. Throughout her life she was recognized in Who's Who in American Women, Who's Who in Texas, Who's Who in Commerce and Industry, National Social Directory, Social Directory of Houston, Southern Social Registry, and Two Thousand Women of Achievement
In 1973 she and her husband (at the ages of 68 and 84) became parents again by adopting their daughter Diane Edmiston. She is survived by her beloved son Robert Quentin Edmiston and wife, Annette Roebuck Edmiston; granddaughter Elizabeth Hall Edmiston, grandson Robert Scott Edmiston and wife Lindsay Kendrick Edmiston and great granddaughter Reece Elizabeth Edmiston She is also survived by her devoted and loving daughter, Diane Edmiston and grandson's Quentin Nathaniel Edmiston and Johnathan Alexander Edmiston.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Willowick and all her many and dear friends for their kindness, loving support and generous help during years. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at the Schaetter Funeral Home in Comfort, Texas.
