"Amelia Britt, 89, daughter of Jacksonville's first reported photographer and last surviving member of a pioneer Oregon family, died at her home in Jacksonville. She had been bedridden for two years. Miss Britt was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville and a behind the scenes worker on town politics. She was the daughter of Peter Britt, immigrant from Switzerland, who came to Jacksonville from Illinois in 1852. He was a landscape and portrait artist. He was Oregon Territory's first photographer who is also reported to have taken the first picture of Jacksonville. Miss Britt died in the hand carved bed in which she was born in 1865. At the time of her death she was the oldest member of the S. Ore. Native Daughters Lodge, member of the S. Ore Historical Society, and Daughters of the Nile.
