Mary was the daughter of Abraham Townsend, the first settler of LaGrange, MI. She married Abraham Loux of Sandusky, OH and together they went to Cass Co., Michigan in the spring of 1828 and located on Section 28. She died the next year.∼Mary was from a pioneer family. The Townsend family made the first settlement in LaGrange, Cass, Michigan March 1st of 1828. Less than a year later, Mary died & was the second person to be buried at the burial grounds on the Shurte farm, now known as Shurte Burial Grounds. The first burial was that of 23 year old David Wright. No burial stone exists anymore for Mary so my brother, Rick, carved this one in memory of her.
