Bessie Catherine Vanderwood Lamphere Llewellyn, 79, died Nov. 24, 1993, at her residence in Sparks, Nev. She was born on Oct. 21, 1915, to William A. and Bessie Nord Vanderwood. She was the youngest of four children. She married Jason Eugene Lamphere on Nov. 20, 1935. They had two daughters: Mrs. Carol Ann Hoyt of Ely, Nev., and Miss Sandra Jean Lamphere of Phoenix, Ariz. She married Reese Edward Llewellyn in Ely, Nev., on April 8, 1946. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1966'. They had four children: Mrs. Kathryn Sestanovich of Sparks, Nev.; Mrs. DIane Swift of Carson City, Nev.; Mrs. Maureen Epps of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mr. Van Reese Llewellyn of Ely, Nev. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lauretta Hawkins of Ely, Nev., 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Bessie lived in Blackfoot, Idaho, until 1943 when she moved to Ely, Nev. She was a homemaker until April 1, 1966, when she went to work as clerk treasurer of White Pine County. Following the death of Treasurer Bob Kranovich, she was appointed Treasurer of White Pine County. She was elected to three terms of office as County Treasurer and retired on June 30, 1985. She was the first female elected official in White Pine County. She was also very active in BPW and held the position of president of that organization for two terms.
