Our beloved wife and mother, Joan (JoAnn) Terry Allen, age 86, of Duluth, passed away on June 12, 2013 with her devoted family at her side. Born near Pershing Point in Atlanta, Mrs. Allen lived in north and south Georgia during her lifetime and during her 66-year marriage to her surviving husband Norris Allen of Duluth. During that time, Mrs. Allen was constantly active and influential in her church and community as a Sunday school teacher, counselor, volunteer, and activist, all the way through her recent work as volunteer receptionist and member of Duluth First Baptist Church.
A gifted writer, genealogist, homemaker, cook, sportswoman, singer, and tap-dancer even to the age of 86, Mrs. Allen considered her most important role faithful wife and caring mother. She was deeply proud of her family including three surviving children (and spouses) Terry and Lisa Allen of Athens, Tamela "Tammy" and Mark Danzey of Johns Creek and Trent and Rhonda Allen of Athens; and grandchildren Adrian Allen, Tyler Phillips, Parker Allen, Savanna Osburn, Stephen Danzey and Sydnie Danzey. She is preceded in death by her parents Lon and Trudie Terry and her infant son, Timothy Allen.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 15th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Duluth, with Dr. Mark Hearn, Rev. Jim Bishop and Rev. Mark Danzey officiating. Burial will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park, Peachtree Corners, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 14th, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
