TALLULAH — Funeral rites are set Tuesday for Walter M. Scott Jr., prominent local planter and grandson of the late Gov. Henry Fuqua, who succumbed Sunday to burns suffered in an explosion in his office three weeks ago.

He died at Vicksburg General Hospital while undergoing treatment.

The funeral will be held from the residence at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be the Silver Cross Cemetery.

Scott was vice president of the Madison Parish Police Jury and was a past director of the Louisiana Delta Council, a director and vice president of the Southern National Bank, a member of the board of directors of the American Soybean Association and a member of the board of the Tidelands Life Insurance Co. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and the American Legion.

Scott attended LSU and was a member of the Kappa Alpha social fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, and three children; his mother, Mrs. Walter M. Scott, Sr., the former Matta Fuqua, formerly of Baton Rouge; his grandmother, Mrs. Henry L. Fuqua Sr., all of Tallulah.

He is also survived by an uncle, Henry L. Fuqua Jr. of Baton Rouge.
