In Nov 1875, he married Mary W. Winchester, daughter of Albert N. and Adeline (Lewis) Winchester.
In 1880 he was living in Fitchburg, MA, age 38, a house painter, with his wife Mary W., 23, and two children: Phebe L., 2, and George C. b. Apr 1880. (A daughter, Jesse was b. in 1882.)
In Aug 1889, his widow Mary W. Merritt received a pension.
