Miss Grace Roberts, 18 Years Old, a Victim of Loaded Revolver in Hands of Her Younger Sister.

BOY FRIEND CARRIED IT FOR "PROTECTION"

Miss Grace Roberts, 18 years old, employed at the People's Laundry, was perhaps fatally shot Saturday night in her home in Wabash Heights by her sister, Miss Gertrude Roberts.

The shooting was accidental. The bullet struck the young woman in the abdomen, and she was immediately rushed to the Woodland Hospital. Her condition late this afternoon was said to be dangerous.

The accident happened after the two sisters, who had been to a picture with two young men, returned to their home. A gun, which one of the men had brought to the house and left while they attended the picture show with two young men, returned to understood that one of the boys had been threatened and had put the gun in his pocket when he left home. When he started to leave the Roberts home, the younger sister, Gertrude picked up the gun and it accidentally discharged, the bullet striking the elder sister in the abdomen.

Friends of the two sisters say that the girls were devoted to one another and that the shooting was purely an accident. Both of the girls were employed by the People's Laundry, the wounded girl having worked there for about two years.

BOYS TELL HOW GIRL WAS SHOT
Carried Revolver Because of Anonymous Threats Over Telephone, Says John Lewis.

Witnesses were examined by Coroner Del Martz late yesterday following the shooting and death of Miss Grace Roberts at her home at 1618 Wheeler Street last Saturday night.

John Lewis and LeRoy Lawrence, two young men, were calling on the slain girl and her sister, Gertrude, according to the testimony. Lewis said that he had received telephone calles from persons unknown to him, who warned him and Lawrence not to "come out to the north end any more." He said that in view of these facts he carried a revolver to the Roberts home for protection. He laid the gun on a dresser.

During the evening, according to the testimony, Gertrude, the younger sister, picked up the gun and snapped it once. There was no discharge, and thinking it was not loaded, she pulled the trigger again. This time the shell was exploded, the bullet striking her sister in the abdomen.

The inquest was informal and no jury was called.

The funeral service of Miss Roberts were held this afternoon instead of yesterday afternoon as mistakenly announced yesterday.

The People's Laundry closed this afternoon to allow its employees to attend the funeral in a body.
