Catherine Capel was born in October 1851 in Walthamstow, Essex, England to Joseph Capel and Elizabeth Cooper. After her father passed away, her mother moved the family to Clapham in Greater London. She worked as a Draper's assistant in 1871. Catherine married Charles Samuel Collis on 3 Oct 1875 at St Saviour's Church in Clapham. Together the couple had four children, two boys and two girls. They lived briefly in Walton-on-Thames before settling in Greenwich. After her husband and a daughter passed away in 1901, she remained in Greenwich. In 1908 Kate and her daughter Nellie immigrated to Canada, following her son Frederick Charles to Kelliher, Saskatchewan. Here she helped keep house and saw her grandchildren born. Catherine "Kate" Collis passed away on 30 Mar 1926.
