Frances B. Juelfs, 93, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Bickford Cottage in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Pastor Bert Burwell will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday.

Frances Belle Juelfs was born in the Remsen (Iowa) Township area to John and Ella (Gist) French on August 3, 1919. She began her education at the Union Consolidated School and later moved to Elkhorn Township near Kingsley, Iowa, where she graduated from Kingsley High School in 1936. That fall she enrolled in Western Union (Westmar) College and earned a teacher's certificate. She taught in rural schools for several years.

She married Harry Juelfs on January 18, 1942, in Kingsley. They farmed several years near Pierson and Brunsville, Iowa. Frances returned to Westmar College and earned a BA degree. She taught 4th grade at the Hinton Consolidated School for 22 years, retiring in 1984. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association. Frances enjoyed the outdoors with family and gardening. She loved sewing and quilting. Frances sold some quilts, which she displayed at various affairs, winning numerous purple ribbons at the Plymouth County Fair. Frances was an active member in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Merrill, where she participated in Ladies' Circle.

Frances is survived by her four sons, Gaylen Juelfs of Dewey, Arizona, De Wayne Juelfs and wife Julie of Merrill, and Dennis Juelfs and Rick Juelfs both of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandchildren, Janet Juelfs of Plano, Texas, Michelle Chamberlain and husband Scott of Homer, Nebraska, Keith Juelfs of Sioux City, Iowa, Scott Juelfs of Fort Collins, Jason Juelfs and wife Heather of Windsor, Colorado, Brandon Juelfs and wife Cori of Windsor, Courtney Juelfs of Fort Collins, and Jim Cameron and wife Lisa of Remsen; great-grandchildren, Cody Chamberlain, Gabriella, Chloe, Jack, and Hayden Juelfs, Jessaki Stribling, and Blake and Lexi Cameron; sisters, Emma Lee Bolton of Sioux City, Mary Reinholdt of Lafayette, Colorado, Darlene Berkenpas of Orange City, Iowa, Maxine McCarty of Mesa, Arizona, and Marcella Kranz of Moville, Iowa; brother, Wyndham & wife Darlene French of Moville and sister-in-law, Dorothy Juelfs of Wallace, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Juelfs; parents, John and Ella French; and her brother, William French.
