Son and heir to Sir William Bouchier and Anne Stafford, Countess of Buckingham, daughter of Thomas of Woodstock.

Second husband of Elizabeth of York, daughter of Richard of York and Anne Mortimer. They were married before 25 April 1426 by dispensation dated 05 June 1426 as they were related in the third degree of kindred. They had sevens sons and one daughter: Sir William Viscount Bouchier, Sir Henry, Sir Humphrey Lord Cromwell, Sir John, Sir Thomas, Edward, Fulk and Isabel.

Henry was heir to his cousin, Elizabeth Bouchier, the wife of Sir Hugh Stafford and Sir Lewis Robessart, summoned to Parliament as Henrico Bourghchier Ch'lr Comti de Ewe, and created Viscount Bourghchier before 14 Dec 1446, created Earl of Essex 30 June 1461. In 1474, Elizabeth and Henry had the lordship of Wark, Northumberland settled upon them and their male heirs by King Henry IV.

Sir Henry died 04 April 1483, Elizabeth died 02 Oct 1484. Both were buried in Beeleigh by Maldon Abbey, and later removed to Little Easton, Essex.
