FUNERAL RITES HELD FOR WIFE OF PIONEER

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon of last week in the East ward chapel for Mrs. Emeline Benson, 87, wife of R.H. Benson, pioneer resident of this community. Bishop W.L. Adams conducted the services and speakers were S.A. Matheson, David Matheson and Mrs. Mary M. Marsden. Music was furnished by Rex Ward, Nelson Marsden, Lola Dalton and Berta Burton. The opening prayer was offered by John W. Bentley and the closing one by William C. Mitchell. At the the cemetery the grave was dedicated by Alvin Benson.

Mrs. Benson's death occured on Thursday afternoon of last week as mentioned in the last issue of the Times. She had been practically helpless and an invalid for two or three years.

The deceased was born in Iowa, Sept. 26, 1847. She was a daughter of James Guymon and Cornelia C. Guymon. Emeline came to Parowan with her parents in 1853 and this has been her home ever since. Her first husband was George Grimshaw of England. Many years after his death she married Nathan Benson of this community who also preceded her in death. Then on Sept. 28, 1922 she was married to Richard H. Benson. She had no children and is survived only by her husband and the following brothers and sisters: James Guymon and Peter M. Guymon of Provo, Lafayette Guymon, New Mexico and 4 sisters, Matilda, Rilly and two others whose names and addresses are unknown.
