Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Maria (Vales) and Luis Socorro Pina, she had lived in New Bedford since 1966.
Survivors include two sons, Luis P. Goncalves and Julio P. Goncalves, both of New Bedford; a daughter, Virginia Gomes of New Bedford; three sisters, Belmira Tavares, Eliza "Lala" Azevedo, and Mariana Neves, all of New Bedford; an aunt, Clarinda Barros of New Bedford; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the mother of the late Maria Santos, Henrique P. Goncalves, and Precilio P. Goncalves, and grandmother of the late Jonathan Lee Goncalves.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday June 21, 2004 at 10 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
