John Dippold, one of the founders of the Dippold Brothers Grain and Feed Company here, died at his home at 923 Grand Avenue at 4:30 a.m. today. He had been failing in health for about six months and death was attributed to complications incident to his advanced age.
Mr. Dippold wa born on a farm northeast of Edwardsville on April 14, 1849. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dippold. Schools of that community furnished his education and while still a boy he engaged in the cooper trade. On October 22, 1872, he was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Miller here. Following marriage, the family moved to Vandalia, Mo., and about one year later returned to Edwardsville.
In 1875 the family moved to Bethalto, where Mr. Dippold was employed in a flour mill. After 18 years in Bethalto, Mr. Dippold removed his family to Edwardsville, where he spent the remainder of his life. With two brothers, Ed and Fred Dippold, Mr. Dippold founded the grain and feed company here 45 years ago. He retired from active business in 1916.
Mrs. Dippold died April 20, 1920. Of the eight children born to the union five preceded their father in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Margaret Fiegenbaum and Arthur J. Dippold of this city and George Dippold of Springfield, Mo. One sister, Mrs. Adolph Klingel, Edwardsville; two brothers, Martin Dippold, Sanger, Cal., eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the Marks Weber Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. C.L. Attig, pastor of the Fist Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be made at Woodlawn Cemetery.
