Mary Andress, 72, of St. Ignace, died early Monday morning, August 22, 2005 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
She was born on Mackinac Island April 17, 1933, to Frank and Cecelia Cadotte and attended the Indian Dormitory School on the Island. She married Francis "Pat" Andress March 2, 1957 on Mackinac Island.
She worked all her life, starting as a housekeeper for Moral Rearmament (now Mission Point Resort), Grand Hotel, and Windermere Hotel on Mackinac Island, and at K-Royale, Quality Inn Lakefront, and Dettmans Resort in St. Ignace. She retired in 1995.
Mrs. Andress cooked for Downing's Restaurant in Mackinaw City several years, as the family moved from the Island in 1963 to Mackinaw City, and then to St. Ignace in 1971.
She is a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
Mrs. Andress is survived by her husband, Pat; five daughters and their families, Marie and Ben Hutchins of Hazel Park, Rose Kerr of Detroit, Deborah Andress of St. Ignace, Wanda and Richard Miller of Bakersville, North Carolina, and Francine Andress of Daytona Beach, Florida; two sons and their families, Francis "Pat" Jr. and James Sr., both of St. Ignace; four sisters and their families, Lucille Visnaw of Carp River, Theresa Howell of Simmons Settlement, Veronica and John Massaway of Simmons Settlement, and Frances Bazinaw of Simmons Settlement; a brother, Nicholas "Bing" Cadotte of Caro; 13 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Keyser and Veronica Cecelia at birth.
Mass of Christian burial was at Thursday, August 25, at Ste. Anne's Catholic Church on Mackinac Island with the Father Rey Garcia officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
