Father of the famous Rev. Peter Cartwright. Married Christiaan Garvin, February 27, 1783, in Amherst County, Virginia, where Rev. Peter Cartwright was born. Peter Cartwright was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and enlisted with his brothers in Capt. Samuel Jordan Cabell's unit. He lost two brothers at the Battle of Brandywine. He was buried in a family plot on his farm which is now long gone. He was born into the very old St. Mary's County, Maryland, Cartwright family.

His son, Rev. Peter Cartwright, wrote "my mother was an orphan." This was untrue. It's believed he said this because his mother was a servant for a Dr. Edmund Wilcox and had two children by him. Do not know if she was black, mulatto, etc. When Dr. Wilcox wrote his will he instructed money to be given to Christiaan and their two sons, Edmund and John Wilcox. Edmund Wilcox became a Minister and his brother, John Wilcox, was a drunk who was hung for murder. Less than a year before Dr. Wilcox died, he married. There was a court battle over the money he was leaving for Christiana and their two sons, and Christiaan lost and received nothing.
