Mother of famous pioneer preacher, Rev. Peter Cartwright. She had two illegitimate children with Dr. Edmund Wilcox, a wealthy plantation owner. She married Peter Cartwright, Sr., a Revolutionary soldier, February 27, 1787, at Amherst County, Virginia. One of the Wilcox sons became a minister and the other son was hung for murder, (many believe he was framed). Married, Peter Cartwright, Sr., and then moved to Kentucky. Had three children by Peter Cartwright. She died at the home of her daughter-in-law, Sophia White Wilcox, wife of the son who was hung for murder. Rev. Peter was the only child to survive his mother. Both his sisters had died before Christiana. Not much is known about Christiana. Rev. Peter wrote in his biography, saying his mother was an orphan and never mentions anything about her. We do know that she was his mother as they are listed together in the court records for Peter Sr.'s will. Also, Rev. Peter Cartwright was born after she married his father, which Rev. Peter never mentions.
