Josephine Lockett-Matthews was born in 1914 in Jeanerette, Louisiana to the union of Lawrence Lockett and Elizabeth Mitchell-Lockett.

Josephine was united in holy matrimony to Laymon Matthews and to this union, 4 children were born.

Josephine was affectionately known as "Mother," "Mommee" or "Fee-Feen". A gracious and compassionate woman, she was regarded as a source of inspiration by those who knew her. She was a devoted follower of the Catholic Church and a faithful member of the Katherine Drexel Society. She constantly prayed for others, starting and ending each day in prayer.

Josephine was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was an excellent cook and baker. Everyone loved and raved about her homemade pineapple cakes. She was also an avid gardener and loved to plant flower beds. With a smile that could light up a room, she was truly loved by everyone who came into her life. She will be missed, but her message of love and compassion will live forever.
