Leander Monninger is the son of Jacob and Mary Catherine (Hayden) Monninger. About 1846 the family moved from Washington Co., Maryland to settle in Trivoli, Peoria Co., Illinois. Here Leander met Mary Ellen Frank, daughter of George and Mary (Snyder)Frank. They were married on February 9, 1860. They made their home in Farmington, Illinois, then moving to Warren Co., Iowa, later settling in Elmo, Dickinson Co., Kansas.in 1904 they moved to Marion, Kansas.
To this union were born 5 sons and 3 daughters, 2 sons and 1 daughter proceeded in death.
Mr. Monninger was a farmer and at one time postmaster in Lehigh, Kansas.
He leaves to mourn their loss his wife and five children, William of Marion, Jacob of Elmo, Frank of Chanute, Mrs James (Ermina) Carney of Peabody, and Mrs. Ephriem (Emma) Jaques of Aitkin, Minnesota.
