John Robert Akers, 89, of Route 1, Draper, passed away Saturday, March 12, 1994 in the Pulaski Community Hospital.

Born August 16, 1904 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late William James Akers and Ada Wheeling Akers.

Surviving are his wife, Nannie Mae Dalton Akers; four daughters, Mrs. Everett (Aileen) Roop of Coatsville, Pa., Mrs. Clyde (Louise) Chinault of Dublin, Doris A. Mabe and Mrs. Lewis (Ann) Williams both of Draper; four sons, Richard Robert Akers of Roanoke, Henry Allen Akers of Eutawville, S. C., Donald Lee Akers of Draper and Curtis Duane Akers of Barren Springs; a stepmother, Dora C. Akers of Draper; two sisters, Madalene Nunn of Pulaski and Mary Sue Thornton of Dublin; two brothers, Thomas Akers of Draper and Henry Akers of Hopewell; 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Earnest Chinault officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski. Visiting will be anytime after 1 p.m. Monday and the family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski. The family will be meetins at the home of his daughtter Doris A. Mabe, Route 1, Draper, where friends may call at anytime. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements.
