Marie Jax, 89, of Adams, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Stacyville Community Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Johnsburg, to Henry and Theresa (Gerber) Smith. She grew up and attended country school in Johnsburg.
On May 21, 1935, she married Augustine Jax in Johnsburg.
Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, the Catholic Aid Association, Rosary Society and Adams Garden Club.
She enjoyed making needle crafts and volunteering, especially at the Adams Health Care Center.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Gene Millenacker, Rochester; Carol and Rick Brumm, Stacyville, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sharon Jax, Austin; Roger and Dianna Jax, Adams; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Erma May, Stacyville, Iowa; Dorothy and Fred May, Rose Creek; Mildred Blake, Adams; Ardella Krebsbach, Adams; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in July 1993; brother, Alfred Smith; and sisters, Amy O'Sullivan and Leona Heimer.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary Service and 7 p.m. Prayer Service and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Casket bearers will be Bryan Millenacker, Steve Brumm, Troy Millenacker, Chris Jax, Dan Brumm, John Jax, Douglas Jax, Dennis Jax, Dean Brumm, Jamie Jax and Tim Jax.
Interment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams.
